Mullingar is delighted to play host to the week-long Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann festival from July 31st to 7th August 2022.
Traditional musicians of all ages are invited to gather in Mullingar for Fleadh Cheoil Mullingar 2022 “The Homecoming”, which will be hosted by Mullingar Comhaltas Branch.
This event is the world’s largest annual celebration of Irish music, language, song and dance. It attracts in the region of 500,000 visitors to the host town every year. The announcement was received with excitement and jubilation by Comhaltas people and lovers of traditional culture in Co. Westmeath.
The event is organised by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and will be hosted in Mullingar in conjunction with the local Fleadh Executive Committee and Westmeath County Council.
The international festival will feature artists from Ireland and around the world. During the week-long event, up to 50 concerts will take place along with All Ireland finals featuring different instruments. More than 500,000 people are expected to attend.
The first national festival of Irish traditional music was held in Mullingar in 1951. At its inaugural meeting in September 1951, CCÉ came up with the title of Fleadh Cheoil, aiming to make this a great national festival of traditional music. The fleadh has been held in many different locations since and we are delighted to welcome it back to Mullingar in 2022 and hopefully 2023.
